Study Report on “Increasing Suicides in Wayanad”

Shreyas has conducted a detailed study on the “increasing suicides in Wayanad”. The study has covered all the cases happened between January 2002 and June 2006 with a total of 316. The objective of the study was to understand the basic reasons behind the increasing suicides and to suggest possible remedies. A team of 6 professionals conducted the study scientifically which was guided by eminent personalities including Dr KKN Kurup, Former Vice- Chancellor Calicut University and Dr NR Unnithan, Former MD, KLD Board

The study report is released on 6th August 2007 by the District Collector of Wayanad and he handed over the copy to the District Pancyahayath President, Wayanad.

The Rock Carvings in the Edakal Cave - Wayanad

The pre-historic rock shelter at Edakal cave, near Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad is a center of great attraction for scholars interested in Neolithic culture in South India. Its rock-cut engravings and inscriptions reflect the earliest civilization and human activities in this region. This center of human legacy was brought into limelight by Fred Fawcett through his study appeared in 1901.

This first publication is a reprint of Fawcett’s article with an introduction note by Dr. K.K. N. Kurup, Historian and Former Vice Chancellor, University of Calicut. We acknowledge our sincere thanks to him. We hope and wish that this booklet can kindle a spark of light in the mind of the readers and researchers to keep up our heritage and to place Wayanad in the list of our patrimony.
