Skill Development Initiatives (SDI Trainings)05-03-2010

Shreyas could successfully complete 8 skill development initiatives trainings with the support of NABARD.  The duration of the trainings was 48 days.  A total of 150 youth especially women were trained through these trainings.  The main trades are Fashion Designing, Flori- Culture & Flower Arrangements, Textile Printing, Gardening & Landscaping, Kundhan and Sardhosi Works, Curtain & Interior Decoration.  The valedictory function was inaugurated by Msgr. Dr. Eldho Puthenkandathil, Vicar General of Diocese of Bathery.  Rev. Fr. Dr. Varghese Thannickakuzhy, Executive Director, Shreyas presided over the function.  Nabard DDM Mr. Baiju Kurup has given the keynote address. Rev. Fr. Varghese Kollamavudy,   Mr. P. M. Pathrose, Mrs. Jeeja Francis and Mr. Raju (Trainer) felicitated the function. Escort services will be provided for the trainees to start micro enterprises.  Also it is planned to mobilize capital as loan from Swasraya Nidhi (PB )for the successful implementation of the projects. 

UNARVU 2009 (Shreyas Staff Sanghamam) 15-12-2009

Shreyas staff Sanghamam 2009 was conducted on 4th & 5th December 2009. This programme aims at the coming together of all the staff members of Shreyas which is organized every year. During the programme the staff members discussed about the thrust areas of Shreyas for the year 2010, Panchayathi Raj Institutions and the need of joined efforts from Government and Non-Government Institutions. Most Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Divannasios, Bishop of Bathery has inaugurated ‘Unarvu-2009’. During his inaugural speech he emphasized that the man is a social animal and the development starts from the heart of human beings. Fr. Dr. Varghese Thannickakuzhy has presided over the function. Mr. O.M George, President, Sulthan Bathery Grama Panchayath gave the keynote address. Fr. Sebastian Edayath Asst. Executive Director, Mr. Z. Francis, Program Officer and Mr. Sasikumar P.B felicitated the function.

Discussions, classes, cultural programmes are also included in the two days sessions. An input session on development challenges was facilitated by Mr. P. V. Baiju, Faculty, Sri Sankrachrya University, Kalady.The valedictory function was inaugurated by Smt. Valsa Chacko, District Panchayath, Wayanad. The Key note address was given by Mr. P. Krishna Prasad, MLA, Sulthan Bathery Legislative Assembly. Msgr. Dr. Eldho Puthenkandathil has given presidential address. A total of 250 members participated in two days seminar from Centre, Region, Unit besides the project staff.


Promotion of Sustainable Agriculture practices through Organic Farming01-12-2009

Shreyas has completed successfully the project on promotion of sustainable agriculture practices through organic farming with the support of IGSSS at Mangode (ward XVIII) in Poothady Grama Panchayath. Model organic village creation, promotion of Vermi composting, integrated training on sustainable agriculture practices and advocacy and lobbying are the major components of the project. Several activities were implemented successfully in the village.    48 families in the village are adopted organic farming practices.  The activities were implemented in convergence with the internal programmes and external development institutions. Even though the project period is over the programmes are going well. The paddy cultivation implemented as part of ensuring food security with the Revolving Fund mobilized from Sulthan Bathery Block Panchayath through Wayanad Organic Consortium and the Goat exchange programme are the best examples for that. All families in the village has started growing nutrition gardens. Shreyas is planning to lead the farmers to organic certification programme.  


NABARD CGM Visited SHREYAS01-12-2009

Nabard Chief General Manager Mr. Sasidhar visited Shreyas on 12th November 2009 in order to evaluate the Nabard supported projects and give necessary guidance for future collaborations. Shreyas is presently implementing 3 watershed development projects with the support of Nabard under WDF.   He visited the Rural Mart and monitored the progress of the watershed projects. Nabard Assistant General Manager Mr. Baiju Kurup also accompanied with him. Shreyas Executive Director Fr. Dr. Varghese Thannickakuzhy and Asst. Director Fr. Sebastian Edayath described about the success of the current NABARD supported projects and need of future collaborations for supporting the marginalized and farmers. CGM has a very good interaction with the Shreyas staff also.


Organizational Development Process 31-10-2009

Shreyas conducted its OD Process from 21st to 23rd October 2009 with aim of revisiting the vision, mission and objectives of the Organization. The process was facilitated by Rev. Fr. Varghese Kattuparambil, Director, Renewal Centre, Kochi. The participants were 8 Regional Directors, Central Directors, Central and Regional staff who shared their concerns and experience.  Shreyas Executive Director Fr. Dr. Varghese Thannickakuzhy and Asst. Exe. Director Fr. Sebastian Edayath lead the group discussions. The aim of the OD process was to identify and plan the thrust areas to be addressed for the coming 5 years.  During the process the organization analyzed its strength and weakness.  Through the exercise all the activities are revisited including the present strategies, area of linkage and collaboration according to the need of the time and present perspectives.
