Tribal Development

Wayanad is the most thickly tribal populated district in Kerala (17.20%). Hence from the very beginning Shreyas Social Service Centre is giving due emphasis to various tribal development activities.

Our tribal Development Programmes are spread in 160 tribal hamlets in Wayanad. We are adopting participatory methods for the integrated development of tribal people.

 

It covers Bathery, Noolpuzha, Nenmeni, Pulpally and Poothadi Panchayaths in Wayanad district. Our concentration is mainly with four tribal communities viz, Paniyas, Kurumas, Kattunaikas & Uralies.


Objectives
  1. To create critical consciousness among tribals
  2. To promote people's organizations and people structures
  3. To promote Local leadership
  4. To initiate Peoples movements
  5. To promote Health and Education
  6. To support the preservation of the cultural heritage


Main Activities
  • SHG formation and strengthening (160 Nos)
  • Formation and Strengthening of tribal Mahila Samajams (16 Nos)
  • Promotion of Balavedis (Children's Group - 82 Nos)
  • Youth Clubs (12 Nos)
  • Vocational Training Programmes for women
  • Tribal Co-operative Societies ( 2 Nos)
  • Health Promotional Activities (Medical Camps, Awareness programmes, Promotion of Herbal Medicines etc)
  • Literacy Centre in collaboration with the National Literacy Mission.
